And in this lesson, students will learn a reading material about Yuan Longping, a famous Chinese scientist, and his contributions to China and the world. 教学目标 By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: (1) know about Yuan Longping and his contributions; (2) enhance reading abilities; (3) improve students’ quality. 教学重难点 Students know about Yuan Longping and understand his great contributions. 课前准备 Multimedia. 教学过程 Step 1 Warm-up Share some pictures of famous scientists at home and abroad. Then ask students some questions related to the scientists’ contributions. 1.Which scientist discovered that objects in water are lifted up by a force that helps them float? 2. Who wrote a book explaining how animals and plants developed as the environment changed? 3.Who invented the way of giving electricity to everybody in large cities? 4. Who is known as China’s “father of hybrid rice”? 【设计意图】 图片帮助学生导入本节课的话题——great scientists。问题设置为竞答的方式增添课堂活跃的氛围。 Step 2 Fast reading 1. Read the text and divide it into four parts. Part 1: In the rice growing world, Yuan Longping is a leading figure. Part 2: As a boy, Yuan Longping likes asking questions in school. Part 3: Yuan Longping began his experiment from an early age and succeed in discovering a new plant in 1970. Part 4: the positive effects of Yuan Longping’s discoveries. 2. Tick the topics mentioned in the passage.
