Warming up
I. Ask the students to look at the photos about“festivals”and discuss the following question:
Who do you usually eat on the festival?
II. Introduce the learning content to the students: Tell them that they are going to read a short passage about festival.
Pre-reading
I. Present some new words on the slide. Tell the students their meanings and pronunciations.
II. Present the following questions and the picture of turkey on page 103, and then ask the students to predict:
What festival is it?
What do people usually do on this festival?
Reading practice (1)
I. Ask the students to skim the passage on Page 103, and try to answer the above questions. Give the students some advice about reading skills.
II. Play the tape. Ask the students to read after the tape and underline the important phrases about Thanksgiving Day. Explain the meanings of these phrases to them.
III. Ask the students to read the table in Activity ②, and then ask them to fill in the table according to the passage.
