purpose: Know some deeds about some great men especially Nelson Mandela.
II. Activity two

III. Activity three
Answer the questions in “Activity One” by underlining(划下划线) the answers in the textbook.
Who is Elias? Who is Mandela?
(S: Mandela was a black lawyer who offered guidance to poor black people on their legal problems. He was generous with his time. Elias was a poor black worker in South Africa.
T: What’s the relationship between them?
S: Mandela helped Elias and in return Elias was very grateful.)
Why did Elias need help?
(S: He needed help because he had little education.
T: Why did he have little education?
S: Because his family couldn’t continue to pay the school fees and bus fare.
T: Exactly. Just as the first paragraph says that he is a very poor black worker in South Africa. Class, imagine that if you have very little education, what will happen in your future?
S: We may not be out of work since we can’t read or write well.
T: How about Elias? Did he get a job? Where did he work?
S: Yes. He worked in a gold mine in Johannesburg.
T: Did he get the job quite easily?
S: No. He got the job after trying hard.
T: Does it mean he could stay in Johannesburg forever since he worked there? Why?
S: No. Because he did not have a passbook since he wasn’t born there.
T: so class, can you use a word to describe Elias feeling at this time?
S: sad; nervous; frustrated; anxious; worried; hopeless...
