Medical, San Clemente, CA) is a novel device designed to remove thrombo-occlusive material from the coronary arteries and saphenous vein grafts. It consists of a helical cutter assembly and a double-lumen catheter, the innermost of which is a hollow tube for passage of a standard 0.014-inch coronary angioplasty guidewire. Two catheter sizes, 1.5 mm and 2 mm, were used in our study. The X-Sizer catheter system is loaded over a 300 cm length 0.014-inch guidewire and advanced to the culprit lesion. Once the tip is positioned proximal to the thrombotic lesion, the cutter is made to spin at ≈ 2,100 rpm by a handheld motor drive unit, shearing the thrombus. Several slow, short passes (1mm/sec) is performed to enable complete thrombus debulking. The thrombus debri is then aspirated through the flutes of the cutter head and the outer lumen of the catheter into a vacuum bottle. * * * * * The composition of the polymer, as per slide text.
