Teaching Procedure
Step I Present To show students the function and meaning of the V-ing form as the adverbial
1. Function: to modify the verbs or the whole sentence
2. Meaning: time, reason, result, condition, concession, way of act, concomitant, supplement, adjective and parenthesis.
Step II Analysis of each meaning
To represent time equals an adverbial clause of time
Eg. (walk) in the street, she witnessed a car accident.= __________in the street, she witnessed a car accident.
2. To represent reason equals an adverbial clause of reason
Eg._______(be ) busy, he didn’t go to the concert yesterday.=_____________busy, he didn’t go to the concert.
To represent time equals “and V”。
Eg.She fell off the bike, (break)her left leg. =She fell off the bike,_____________ her left leg.
To represent condition equals an adverbial clause of condition
Eg. the window, you will see the garden below. (Open) = the window, you will see the garden below.
To represent concession equals an adverbial clause of concession
Eg. what you say, I still think you are wrong. = __________what you say , I still think you are wrong.
表示行为方式、伴随情况或补充说明常置于句末,可以扩展成一个并列成分。
Eg.He was walking along the street, (look) this way and that.= He was walking along the street, ____ ____this way and that.
修饰形容词有少数动词-ing形式常放在某些形容词前面,起副词的作用,意思是“极”或“非常”,表示其程度或状态。
Eg. It was freezing/biting cold that
