His first and also the most representative novel, Robinson Crusoe, was one of the earliest works of English realism in the 18th century. The hero, Robinson Crusoe in the book, with his extraordinary perseverance and outstanding independence, has won the approval of many generations of readers from all over the world. However, it is not difficult to find there are also flaws in his character. This paper will explore on several subtle changes in Robinson’s behaviors, and go further to analyze the duality in Robinson’s personality, its’ causes, as well as the significance of those changes in the novel.
