Teaching Goals: Knowledge objectives Let students have an understanding of UK’s formation, England’s geographical division, London’s cultural importance. Teaching Procedures: Step I: Lead-in Activities Intentions Time Teacher arises a question about the man shaking hands with our Chairman, asking the students tell his nationality. And then turn to the topic “puzzle”. Teacher starts the topic from the latest news about Prince William and China, which can help them focus on the title and arouse their curiosity about the new passage . 1 min. 1. T: Who’s the man shaking hands with our Chairman Xi in the picture? 2. T: Where does Prince William come from? 3. T: Why are there different words to describe the same country? Step II: Preparation Process Activities Intentions Time Pre-reading Students try to guess what the writer will talk about by looking at the three pictures and reading the title . Reading strategy training: predicting. 2 min. 1. T: Look at the title and three pictures. What will be talked about in the passage? 2. T: You will know whether your prediction is right or not at the end of the class. Step III: Presentation and practice Process Activities Intentions Time While-reading 1.
