Unit8 lesson5 Monty’s phonics
Teaching objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to identify and say the long ow / ou /a?/ vowel sound.
Teaching points: .the phoneme /a?/ as in brown, mouse, town, house
Teaching difficulties: vowel pairs ou / ow
Teaching methods : listening reading and repeating
Teaching aids: Pictures,cards and CD
Teaching steps:
Step1:Warmer● (5 minutes)
● Revise the town and household objects vocabulary using the 12 flashcards. Flash each one quickly in front of pupils, elicit the word and stick it on the board (picture side).
Step2 :Presentation (20minutes)
Show the picture of mouse, let the pupils say out the word :mouse. “Ou”says /a?/
Let them find house has the same sound.
2 show other words including “ou” , let the pupils read.
3 To learn the other vowel pair “ow” show more words including “ow” The students will find : They have the same sound.
4 Say Open your Pupil’s Books at page 58, please. Point to the small pictures and say them, emphasising the vowel sound / a?/. Pupils practise pronunciation of each word. Point at the large picture and say What colour is the mouse? (Brown) Where is it? (In a house) Where’s the house? (In a town). Say Now listen to Monty, point and repeat. ● Play the CD. Pupils listen and repeat the sounds, words, and sentence using the same tone and speed as Monty. ● Pupils repeat the tongue twister as a class. Do it more and more quickly. Then ask small groups of pupils to have a go at saying it. Go around the class from group to group. Put pupils into pairs. They take it in turns to say the tongue twister quickly to each other. Invite volunteers to say it to the class.

To read the words including ou / ow .
Listen and spell the words.
Listen and write the words.
Sep4 Production (5minutes)
To read a story of cloud.
