PAGE PAGE 20 霍桑作品中的象征意义探究 摘要：像关研究表明，有关象征意义的评论越来越多，研究作品中的象征意义毫无疑问是探究作者写作意图的最快捷的途径。知道了作者的写作意图，读者不必深入思考便可以领悟作者寓意。纳撒尼尔·霍桑是十九世纪美国浪漫主义最杰出的代表作家之一，因其在作品中巧妙地运用各种象征的寓意而享有盛誉。在他的作品中创造性的运用了许多的象征手法来表现主题。迄今为止，霍桑本人及他的作品一直都是中外学者讨论、评论和学习的对象，所以有关霍桑及他的作品的评论文章不计其数，然而我发现评论界大多关注他的代表作品《红字》，对于他的其他同样十分精彩的短篇小说的评论资料却是十分有限。然而在其代表作《红字》问世之前，霍桑也有很多别具一格的短篇小说，正是这些短篇小说为他后续的创作做好了完美的铺垫。本文希望通过对其代表作《红字》和《好小伙布朗》两篇优秀小说的分析，探究其中的象征意义及他们的共通点，使学者们能对霍桑有更加全面的认识，理解为何霍桑被称之为象征主义完美大师。 关键词：纳撒尼尔霍桑；象征；小说 A study of symbolic meaning in Hawthorne’s fiction Abstract: Research shows that, more and more comments concern the symbolic meaning of works; research works in the symbolic meaning is undoubtedly the most direct way to explore the intention of the writer. Knowing the writing purpose of the author, the reader can understand without reverie author′s implication. Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of the most famous representative writers of American romantic writers in the nineteenth Century, because of his skilled in using symbolic meaning and reputation. So far Chinese and foreign scholars always discuss, review and learn about Hawthorne and his works, so there are too many review articles, but I found that the critical circles mostly focus on his masterpiece the scarlet letter, so the review data about the same wonderful short story of him is very limited. However, before he wrote his masterpiece the scarlet letter, Hawthorne also has written a lot of wonderful short stories, it is these short stories made perfect preparation for his subsequent creation. This article hoped to explore the symbolic meanings and find there common point through analysis his representative work the scarlet letter and the excellent short stories:Young Goodman Brown, so that scholars can have a more comprehensive understanding of Hawthorne, understand why Hawthorne called symbolism perfect master.
