Warming up
I. Group presentation: Each group take turns to report different departments in a company
II. Ask the students to listen to the recorder and match the pictures with the phrases in Exercise 1.
III. Ask the students to listen to the tape, and explain who Karl Smith, Tracy and Andrew Green are.
IV. Look through the questions in Exercise 2, and explain the words about jobs and departments.
V. Listen to the tape again. Then answer the questions.
Presentation of Listening
I. Brainstorm: What should you say for the first meeting at the company?
II. Tell the students they are going to listen to a dialogue about Tracy’s first day. Teach them how to use the words and expressions in the box of Exercise 1.
III. Ask the students to listen to the tape in Exercise 2 and repeat the expressions they learnt in the box.
IV. Ask the students to listen again and finish the Exercise 3.
V. Ask the students to listen and act out the dialogue in pairs. (The names and jobs could be changed.)
VI. Ask the students to finish Exercise 4.
Listening Practice
I. Discussion: What are the duties of the secretary?
II. Ask the students to listen to the passage in Exercise 5, and take notes. Then take turns to report the duties of the secretary.
III. Ask the students to look through the passage in Exercise 5, and try to fill in the blanks.
IV. Listen again and check the answers.
