My teaching design is based on Module 8 Unit 2 I was trying to pick it up when it bit me again. The guiding theories of the design include the theory of Core Competencies, the View of English Learning Activities and the Scaffolding Instruction Theory. The following seven parts will be covered in my presentation of teaching.

The teaching material will be analyzed from three levels: the text book, the overall unit (module) and the text itself.
Module 8 Accidents Unit 2 I was trying to pick it up when it bit me again is taken from New Standard English Book 3 for Grade 8, which is published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. The theme of this module is about accidents. Students are expected to talk about what was happening at a specific time using past continuous with adverbial clauses. Module 8 and Module 12 from Book 3 and Module 5 from Book 6 share the similar theme and they are interconnected in contents. Module 8 focuses on raising students’ safety awareness.
Module 8 consists of three units and talks about how to prevent accidents and how to deal with different accidents in the proper way. There are five texts all together in this module. After adjusting the order of the texts, three small ideas can be concluded. They are improving safety awareness so as to prevent accidents, keeping calm to save oneself in the right way and taking tactful action to solve the crisis which lead to the big idea of the overall unit—improving safety
