Unit 2 I know that you will be better at maths.
Analysis of the Teaching Material
There are four discourses in the whole module, including three reading discourses and a listening discourse. The designer moved the part “Around the World” to the first lesson to make these discourses logically related, from getting to know about graduation, to being grateful to others and to making plans for the future. The big idea of this module is to help students form the attitude of being grateful and make future plans.

I analyze the target discourse from three perspectives: What, Why and How.
What: The topic is about graduation, being grateful and making future plans. It is a speech at the school leavers’ party to express thanks. And it contains a picture, from which students can get the information of the speaker, the audiences, their facial look, the flowers and the decorations.
Why: It tells students how to express opinions gently and politely, and students
can learn the value of being grateful to teachers, friends and parents.
How: Genre: It is a speech to express thanks. Structure: It contains the opening part, the body part and the closing part. Language: There are parallel sentences, varied tenses, objective clauses (that, which) and attributive clauses (that, who, whom) in the speech.

Analysis of the Target Students.
The target students are the ninth graders and I will analyze them from the perspective of their preparation and challenge. I also give the solutions to the challenge.
The preparation:
Topic: The target students have got the context of school-leavers’ party and they have known that Betty is going to give a speech from Unit 1.
Competences: The target students are able to motivate study. They have grasped the attributive clause, the object clause and reading skill
