Totalexportrevenuesfromtourism(includingpassengertransport)areestimatedatUSD1.6trillionin2023,almost95%oftheUSD1.7trillionrecordedin2019.

Preliminaryestimatesoftourismdirectgrossdomesticproduct(TDGDP)pointtoUSD3.3trillionin2023,or3%ofglobalGDP,thesamelevelasin2019,drivenbybothdomesticandinternational

levelsin2024,withinitialestimatespointingto2%growthabove2019levelsininternationaltouristarrivals.

ThepositiveoutlookforthesectorisreflectedinthelatestUNWTOTourismConfidenceIndexsurvey,with67%oftourismprofessionalsindicatingbetterormuchbetterprospectsfor2024comparedto2023.

Theunleashingofremainingpent-updemand,increasedairconnectivity,andastrongerrecoveryofAsianmarketsanddestinationsareexpectedtounderpinafullrecoverybytheendof2024.

Economicandgeopoliticalchallengescontinuetoposesignificantchallengestothesustainedrecoveryofinternationaltourismandconfidencelevels.
