Emphasisinghowdifficultithasbecomefornewentrantstothemarket,theONSsaidpricespaidbyfirst-timebuyersinJulywere13.5%higheronaveragethanthesamemonthlastyear.Forowner-occupiersmovinghome,pricesincreasedby10.9%forthesameperiod.Onamonth-on-monthbasis,propertyvaluesincreasedby1.6%acrosstheUKbetweenJuneandJuly.

ChrisWilliamson,chiefeconomistatMarkit,saidtheconsistentdouble-digitpriceriseswilladdtoworriesthatthepropertymarketposesakeyrisktofinancialstability.
