A large number of words are therefore labeled as frivolous, vulgar, obscene, or at least inconsiderate when used in communication. In order to avoid referring to those tabooed words or ease the sting of harsh words, man has created euphemisms, which is a popular figurative speech. Euphemisms are widely used in both Chinese and English literal works, newspapers and magazines，so are in our daily life?(何善芬，2002). In English-Chinese or Chinese-English translation, the proper rendering of Euphemism is an important factor.1 Enright?(1985) stated:?A language without euphemism would be a defective instrument of communication?(P29).From this sentence, we know? the importance of euphemism in language communication. Whats the definition of Euphemism? How to use it in daily communication and inter-cultural communication and how to relate with different culture? Therefore, we should know the definition, classification, formation of euphemism. This paper also analyses that euphemism is a cultural phenomenon greatly influenced by culture. Also, this paper explores the relationship between language and culture, euphemism and language. Then this paper analyses that the communicative function of euphemism, also, the author simply gives out some suggestions to prepare for the cross-cultural communication.2. Linguistic Study of Euphemism2.1 Definition of Euphemism.So far, there have been different definitions of Euphemism.?
