The Science Associations and the Change of Society in Republic China ——A Model Study on The Science Society of China in Society of Science Abstract Organized according to the western science association in America, The Science Society of China focused on publicizing science and putting democracy into practice. These met the need of the civilization construction and the civilization revolution in China. The Science Society of China was the guide of the new civilization campaign in the May Fourth Movement, through asking for Mr. Democracy and Mr. Science . In order to suit the change of social environment, The Science Society of China constantly transferred itself to fit its society role. When it was founded, it took the joint-stock company form, and only issued The Science magazine. In Oct. 25, 1915, it was reorganized to be a pure science association, and its aim is to connect with comrade, and to flourish Chinese science “. After that, its affair was to a large extent expanded. Moved back to China in 1918, the Science Society of China had a different concept with that of its early times which was to propagate the thought of science. It shifted its center to the scientific research and the systematization of science research. In Aug 1922, it faced the second reorganization, and its aim change to scientific research clear: founding The Biological Laboratory of The Science Society of China, establishing The Ming Fu Library etc. Along with the development of Chinese science, in the middle of 30’s 20 centuries, The Science Society of China was in progress that its role changed once more to science research and science popularization, with publishing Science Illustrated magazine and correcting The Science .It attempted
