Abstract：Oasesfire importanthabitatsforhuman survivaland developmentin northwestarid China；
however．they arefragile．Torealize ecologicalconstructionand sustainabledevelopmentin northwest
China，ananalysisoftheeconomicandecologicalbenefitsoftheoasissystem withafocusOFtsustainability
and1anduseoptimizationofoasisagro—economicsystemsareneeded．ThispaperselectsFukangCityas
astudyarea．ItislocatedonthenorthernslopeofMtTianshan．XinjiangUygurAutonomousRegion．The
authorsdiscusstheecologicaland economicbenefitsoftheoasissystem．annualvariation and establishan
optimizedallocation schemeofoasislandusestructureinFukangCitybasedonemergyanalysisandlinear
programmingmodeling．From 1996to2006theoasissystem wasinaweaksustainabledevelopmentstate．
Ecologicaland economicbenefitsanalysisoftheoasissystem basedon emergy analysis showsthatthe
developmentofanoasissystem inFukangCity isrestrictedby land，climateandwaterresources，being
a typica1exampleofthehigh—inputand low—outputtype．The comparativeadvantageanalysisofoasis
croppingbasedoneconomicsand ecologicaleconomicsshowsthatthefarming structurewillvary across
differentgoals．Ifthemaximum ecologicalefficiencyispursued．farmingstructure isdeterminedbyemergy
density；and ifthemaximum ecologicaland economicbenefitswith limitedwaterresourcesarepursued．
