Syllabus for An Introduction to Western Literature Feb. 2004/2/13 Gong-way Lee I Aims of this Course The course is designed as a guide to understanding and appreciating the richness of Western literature, including their major writers and masterpieces. Students need to pick up some of the important writers and try to translate their works into Chinese. There are numerous Chinese translations of these literatures. Students also need to familiarize themselves with these translations and sometimes make a comparison between different translation editions. It is hoped that after studying of this course students will better control the bilingual sources of Western literature and be ready to do further researches.
