An mi proved plate theory wh ich includes the effects of shear deformation and rotatory inertia asw ell as normal stress to the p late surface is introduced and the equation ofmotion in terms of single displacement is derived. Solu- tions are obtained by app lying Fourier transforms. The effects of the approxmi ation methods of the plate theory on the response of the d isp lacem ent and the stress couples are exam inedw ith regard to the load ve- locity, p late dmi ensions, etc. , in addition to the comparison w ith the resu lts deriving frrom the classical plate theory.
