The expermi ental resu lts show ed thatm aking of A-l Si alloy by blending low grade bauxite and redmud was feasible; themeltingA l-Si alloys included 50% alum inum, 35% silicon and some mi purities. The main mi puritiesw ere iron andmetallic oxides. The optmi um smelting temperaturew as be- tw een 2 000~ 2 200 e . Both A l and Si content in alloys increased w ith reduction temperature rising. U n- der the same reduction temperature, the recovery rate of Siw as h igher thanA l. Impurities in alloyw as re- moved by using cryolite and sod ium chloride as purificant.
