In order to learn the employment of metacognitive strategies by the rural junior high school students in English vocabulary learning,the author surveyed 322 students and 1 4 English teachers in 7 rural junior high schools in Xuchang,Henan Province.By means of questionnaire,interview and test,the author intended to discuss 3 questions:1)What is the overall situation of the rural junior high school students’using of metacognitive strategies? 21 Are there any differences of using metacognitive strategies in English vocabulary learning between high-score and low-score students?3)Are there any differences of using metacognitive strategies in English vocabulary learning between male and female students? The results of the research indicated that:1)All metacognitive strategies illustrated in the questionnake have been employed by the rural junior high school students,but the frequency is not high.Among the four metacognitive strategies,the frequency of selective attention strategies is the highest,whi
