Ultra?neparticlesofparacetamolwereproducedbyRapidExpansionofSupercriticalSolution(RESS).Theexperimentswere conducted to investigate the e?ects of extraction temperature (313–353K), extraction pressure (10–18MPa), preexpansion temperature(363–403K),andpostexpansiontemperature(273–323K)onparticlessizeandmorphologyofparacetamolparticles. ThecharacterizationoftheparticleswasdeterminedbyScanningElectronMicroscopy(SEM),TransmissionElectronMicroscopy (TEM),andLiquidChromatography/MassSpectrometry(LC-MS)analysis.Theaverageparticlesizeoftheoriginalparacetamol was20.8μm,whiletheaverageparticlesizeofparacetamolafternanonizationviatheRESSprocesswas0.46μmdependingon theexperimentalconditionsused.Moreover,themorphologyoftheprocessedparticleschangedtosphericalandregularwhile thevirginparticlesofparacetamolwereneedle-shapeandirregular.Responsesurfacemethodology(RSM)wasusedtooptimize theprocessparameters.Theextractiontemperature,347K;extractionpressure,12MPa;preexpansiontemperature,403K;and postexpansiontemperature,322Kwasfoundtobetheoptimumconditionstoachievetheminimumaverageparticlesizeof paracetamol. 1.Introduction drawbacksoftradition
