Treatment-resistant depression is associated with signi?cant disability and, due to its high prevalence, results in substantive economicandsocietalburdenatapopulationlevel.Theobjectiveofthisstudyistosynthesizeextantliteratureonapproaches currentlybeingappliedtounderstandandaddressthiscondition.Itishopedthatthe?ndingscanbeusedtoinformpractitioners and guide future research. A scoping review of the scienti?c literature was conducted with ?ndings categorized and charted byunderlyingresearchparadigm.Currently,thevastmajority ofresearchstemsfromabiologicalparadigm(81%).Research ontreatment-resistantdepressionwouldbene?tfromabroadened?eldofstudy.Giventhatmultipleetiologicalmechanisms likely contribute to treatment-resistant depression and current e?orts at prevention and treatment have substantial room for improvement,anexpandedresearchagendacouldmoree?ectivelyaddressthissigni?cantpublichealthissue. 1.Introduction treatmentshouldconstitutefailuretoreachremission,and thatfuturestudiesshouldemploythiscriterionasthe“gold standardoutcome,”aconclusionthatparallelsGreden’swork [1].
