Occupationalexposure to wooddustisa strongrisk factorforthedevelopmentofintestinal-type sinonasaladenocarcinoma (ITAC);however,knowledgeonpossibleprecursorlesionsorbiomarkersislimited.Fifty-onesamplesoftumor-adjacentmucosa and19controlsamplesofmucosafromtheuna?ectedfossaofITACpatientswereevaluatedforhistologicalchangesandp53 protein expression. Mild dysplasiawasobservedin 14%,cuboidal metaplasiain 57%,intestinal metaplasiain 8%, squamous metaplasiain24%,andcylindrocellularhyperplasiain53%ofcases.P53immunopositivitywasgenerallyweakoccurringmost frequentlyinsquamousmetaplasia.Wooddustetiologydidnotappearofin?uenceonthehistologicalchanges,butp53showeda tendencyforhigherpositivity.Dysplasiaadjacenttotumorwasindicativeofsubsequentdevelopmentofrecurrence.Inconclusion, precursorlesionsdooccurinmucosaadjacenttoITAC.Thisisclinicallyimportant,becauseitmayjustifythescreeningofh
