Birdsarethemostconspicuousandsigni?cantcomponentoffreshwaterwetlandecosystem.Presenceorabsenceofbirdsmay indicatetheecologicalconditionsofthewetlandarea.Theobjectivesofthisstudyweretodeterminebirdspeciesabundanceand theirrelationshipwithmicroclimateandhabitatvariables.Distancesamplingpointcountmethodwasappliedfordetermining speciesabundanceandmultipleregressionswasusedfor?ndingrelationshipbetweenbirdspeciesabundance,microclimateand habitatvariables.BirdspeciesweremonitoredduringNovember,2007toJanuary,2009.Atotalof8728individualbirdscomprising 89speciesand38familiesweredetected.MarshSwampwasswarmedby84species(69.8%)followedopenwaterbodyby55 species(17.7%)andlotusswampby57species(12.6%).PurpleswamphenPorphyrioporphyrio(9.1%ofalldetections)wasthe mostabundantbirdspeciesofmarshswamp,lesserwhistlingduck—Dendrocygnajavanica(2.3%)wasdominantspeciesofopen waterbodyandpink-neckedgreenpigeon—Treronvernans(1.7%)wasmostcommonspeciesoflotusswamp.Resultsrevealedthat thehabitatcharacteristicssuchasvegetationcomposition(i.e.emergentandsubmergedvegetations,grasses,shrubs,andtrees), vegetationstructures(treediameterandheight)andmicrocl
