Ankylosingspondylitisisachronicin?ammatoryconditionthatusuallya?ectsyoungmen.Cardiacdysfunctionandpulmonary diseasearewell-knownandcommonlyreportedextra-articularmanifestation,associatedwithankylosingspondylitis(AS).AShas alsobeenreportedtobespeci?callyassociatedwithaortitis,aorticvalvediseases,conductiondisturbances,cardiomyopathyand ischemicheartdisease.Thepulmonarymanifestationsofthediseaseinclude?brosisoftheupperlobes,interstitiallungdisease, ventilatoryimpairmentduetochestwallrestriction,sleepapnea,andspontaneouspneumothorax.Theyaremanyreportsdetailing pathophysiology,hypothesizedmechanismsleadingtothesederangements,andestimatedprevalenceofsuch?ndingsintheAS populations.Atthistime,therearenoclearguidelinesregardingastepwiseapproachtoscreenthesepatientsforcardiovascular andpulmonarycomplications. 1.CardiacManifestationsof AnkylosingSpondylitis tionmay,however,predatetheonsetofanyjointsymptoms, andthepresenceofankylosingspondylitisasanunderlying causemaynotbeinitiallyappreciated[1].
