Multiple sclerosis(MS) disease is carried through in?ammatory and degenerative stages. Based on clinical feaures, it can be subdividedintothreegroups:relapsing-remittingMS,secondaryprogressiveMS,andprimaryprogressiveMS.Multiplesclerosis hasamultifactorialetiologywithaninterplayofgeneticpredisposition,environmentalfactors,andautoimmunein?ammatory mechanisminwhichplayakeyroleCC-chemokinesanditsreceptors.Inthispaper,westudiedthefrequencyofCCR5geneΔ32 alleleinacohortofSicilianRR-MSpatientscomparingwithgeneralSicilianpopulation.Also,weevaluatetheassociationbetween thiscommonlypolymorphismanddisabilitydevelopmentandageofdiseaseonsetinthesamecohort.Ourresultsshowthat presenceofCCR5Δ32issigni?cantlyassociatedwithexpandeddisabilitystatusscalescore(EDSS)butnotwithageofdisease onset. 1.Introduction thestart, byagradualprogressionofdisability).Themost commonformofdiseaseinapproximately85%ofthecases is RR-MS and, typically, the illness passes through phases ofrelapsewithfullrecovery,relapsewithpersistentde?cit, and secondary progression [1, 2].
