In this paper we proposeanovelquaternion-baseddiscriminantmethod.Thismethodrepresentsandclassifiescolorimagesinasimpleand mathematicallytractableway.Theproposedmethodissuitableforalargevarietyofreal-worldapplicationssuchascolor facerecognitionandclassificationofthegroundtargetshowninmultispectrumremoteimages.Thismethodfirstusesthe quaternionnumbertodenotethepixelinthecolorimageandexploitsaquaternionvectortorepresentthecolorimage. This method then uses the linear discriminant analysis algorithm to transform the quaternion vector into a lower- dimensionalquaternionvectorandclassifiesitinthisspace.Theexperimentalresultsshowthattheproposedmethodcan obtainaveryhighaccuracyforcolorfacerecognition.
