A Tc1/mariner superfamily transposon, Minos, has excision and transposition activities in Ciona. Minos enables the creation of stable transgenic lines, enhancer detection, and insertional mutagenesis. Introduction sequences of Tc1/mariner transposons [15]. Transposition occurs in Ciona germ cells, and Minos is inserted into the chromosomes of germ cells [12]. The insertions are inherited stably by subsequent generations, thereby creating stable transgenic lines. Using this transformation technique, genetic DNA transposons are powerful tools for genetic analyses. Transposons are employed for creation of stable transgenic lines, enhancer detection, gene trapping, and insertional mutagenesis. These transposon-mediated techniques have been facilitated by the discovery and reconstruction of active transposons in several organisms [1-11].
