功能翻译理论在旅游翻译中的应用 Application of Functionalist Translation Theories to Tourism Translation Abstract The booming international tourism industry in China has given rise to the need of well- translated tourist texts to provide quality traveling information for foreign tourists and attract more foreign people to travel to China. This has given tourism translation a role of paramount importance .However, the existing situation is that many English versions of Chinese tourist texts are far from satisfactory and fail to achieve the function as intended. Therefore, tourism translation deserves an in-depth study. As Tourism translation aims at providing traveling information for foreign people and arousing their interest to visit a certain tourist destination in China, the intended function of the target text in the target situation is a key factor that the translator has to keep in mind in the translation process. As a break with the concept of equivalence and an important supplement to translation theories, the functionalist approaches try to liberate the translator from the restrain of source language. From the standpoint of the translator, functionalist approaches regard translating as a purposeful activity which should take the requirements of both readers and clients into account. The author of this thesis takes German functionalism as her theoretical basis, to probe into the status of tourism translation nowadays through case studies to analyzes and summaries the common translation problems and errors, and provides suggestions for revision. Based on functionalism，the thesis seek effective ways such asimprove the translation quality . Based on an analysis of many examples, the author comes to a conclusion: functionalist approaches are useful to guide C-E tourism translation. In the translation process, the translator is required to bear in mind the intended function of the target text and produce a version that is comprehensible and acceptable to the target reader.
