On Student-Centered College English Teaching
[Abstract] traditional teaching model has been unable to meet the evolving needs of the community, English teaching reforms. ‘Student-centered’ teaching and learning new ideas and models to the college English teaching reform provides a new idea, pointed out a new direction. It emphasizes the learners in language learning process in the central position, so that the teaching of English learners on how to create a more favorable language learning environment, promoting English learning, helping students overcome learning difficulties encountered in start teaching activities.

Over the years, the historical tradition of English teaching is teacher-centered teaching model, teachers are teaching the main characters: the teacher talks, the students take notes; a teacher demonstration, students imitate; teacher questions and students answer; make provision for teachers and students a 1 to comply with. This ‘Man Tangguan’ teaching methods to enable students to become passive recipients of knowledge of the language, and deprive students of learning enthusiasm and creativity, the students often only have the knowledge of the language, rather than have the language proficiency and learn is ‘Dumb English’ contrary to the purpose of learning foreign languages, that foster the language communicative competence.
While my college English teaching ‘time-consuming and inefficient’, ‘Dumb English’ status has improved, but in the knowledge explosion, multimedia, personal computers, the growing popularity of the Internet today, college English teaching is still confined to ‘a teaching materials, a chalk, a mouth ‘of classroom teaching and students to memory-based language learning.
