It is one of the most important dimensions in measuring cultural values. One of the most famous and impressive researches was made by Greet Hofstede, representative of Holland Institute of Cross-culture Research. Though doubted and criticized by many scholars, the achievement made by Hofstede’s research has been much used for reference in the field of culture research, business management etc. This dissertation is organized into five sections. The first section is a general introduction of power distance. The second section presents definitions of power distance. The next section provides a brief review of literature regarding the topic of power distance. The fourth section discusses the reasons behind differences in power distance between China and America from perspectives of culture resources, social life, political tradition, and economic structure. The last section presents the analytical results. Of particular interest will be the conclusive discussion of power distance between China and America from several different perspectives.
