· 46· WorldJ．Acu—moxi．Vo1．17，No．4，December，2007 ^ 1 0 1一、 · 0 A ca em zc ZSCRSSZ071 DY oN E=SSENCE OF CHANNEL AND CoI J ATER CoURSES 经络路线的实质研究 XIE Hao-ran(谢浩然) Institute ofBasic Medicine，Hebei Medical University，Hebei 050017，China(河北医科大学基础医学研究 所，石家庄 OOI7，中国) The channels and collateral courses are longitudinal and horizontal passages of liquid and gas between fascia along channels and collaterals，their forms are band—shaped lines of natural winding with different thicknesses，which are approximate to the classical connective lines between the classical channels and collaterals and acupoints(il— lustrated lines)，and similar to the lines of needling response propagating along channels and band-shaped lines of isotope tracing along channels．The followings are about studies on structures，channel—qi，the pathway of qi， regulation and essence of channel and collateral courses． 1 Structures of channels and collateras are longitudinal and horizontal interstital structures along channels It is indicated in Miraculous Pivot：Meridians(《灵枢·经脉》)that“for human body，the essential substances constituting human body are firstly formed and then the brain and the spinal cord produce，the bone is the trunk，blood circulating in blood vessels，tendons are rigid frame，and the muscles are walls；And twelve chan— nels travel between muscles”．Also it is stated in Miraculous Pivot：Meridian Water(《灵枢·经水》)that“a human body of 8 chi in length has skin and muscles，which can be measured and palpated externally and can be seen by dissection after death．’’The observation on 14 channels and 15 collaterals by dissection indicated that the 14 channels are longitudinal fascial space between muscles along channels；and the 15 collaterals are horizontal fascial space between muscles along channels．The fascial space has compound’functions of lo
