Abstract:Asanimportantpartofmuhimedia—assistedteaching
systems,PowerPointhasbeendevelopedtoprovideaconvenientand
advancedmediumforEnglishteaching.Thereisnodoubtthatthep—
plicationofPowerPointinteachingbenefitsusalot,However,itisal—
soeasyforustobeinclinedtoignoreitsnegativeinfluence.There—
fore,arelatedquestionnairesurveyiscarriedoutamongfiftystudents
ofEnglishmajorintheGuangxiNormalUniversity,forthepurposeof
findingouttheexistedproblemsoftheapplicationofPowerPointin
collegesEnglishteachingfromtheperspectiveofstudents.Theresult
ofsurveyshowsthatthemajorproblemsofapplyingPowerPointin
Englishteachingare:improperlydesignedandoverusedPowerPointby
teachersinclass.Then,somereasonablesuggestionsareproposedfor
reference.

I.Introduction
PowerPointisapresentationprogramdevelopedbyMicrosoft,and
itisapartoftheMicroso~Officesystem.Nowadays,ithasbeen
widelyfdppliedfordifferentkindsofprofessionalpresentations,espe—
ciallyininstruction.Atthesametime,thedebateontheapplication
ofPowerPointinEnglishteachinghasbeenahottopic.Mostusersae—
knowledgethevirtuesoftheapplicationofPowerPoint,whereassome
peoplebelievethatthedemeritsofapplicationofPowerPointover—
weightthemerits.
Therefore,thepresentsurveyiscarriedoutonthiscontroversial
issueforthepurposeoffindingout,intheeyesofstudents,thead—
vantagesanddisadvantagesofPowerPointusedinEnglishteaching.
Thenintermsoftheproblemreflectedinthesurvey,therelatedsolu—
tionsarebroughtforward.
