AbstractTheMesogen-jacketedliquidcrystalpolymers(MJLCPs)isakindofsemi-rigidchainpolymer,intheory,ithasformedlyotropicliquidcrystalpolymer.Sopeoplearedevotedtosearchsuitableconditions,makingmesogen-jacketedliquidcrystalpolymersbecomelyotropicliquidcrystalline.Unfortunately,theyhavefailedtomakeit.HereinwedesignedandsynthesizedanovelMJLCP,makingitbecomelyotropicliquidcrystalineinsuitableconditions,whichwillbemeaningfulinacademicresearchandpracticalapplications.TwokindsofMJLCPs,poly{2,5-bis[(4-methoxyphenyl)oxycarbonyl]styrenes}PMPCSandpoly{2,5-bis[(4-butyloxyphenyl)oxycarbonyl]styrenes}PBPCS,weresuccessfullysynthesizedviafreeradicalpolymerization.ThePMPCSisthetypicalMJLCPsinwhichliquidcrystallinephasedoesn’tdisappearwhateverthetemperaturechange.Theotherisare-entrantphase’MJLCPswhichliquidcrystallinephasewilldisappearduringcooling.Basedonthesetwokindsofpolymers,westudiedthephasebehaviorofconcentratedsolutionofMJLCPsthroughmixingdifferentsmallmolecules.Comparedwiththephasebehaviorofhomopolymers,polymer/smallmoleculesblendshavedisplayedthemoreinterestingphasebehavior.Themaintopicsofpaperareasfollows.Firstly,themolecularcharacterizationsofthepolymerswereperformedwith1HNMRandgelpermeationchromatography(GPC).Secondly,differentsmallmoleculesweresuccessfullydesignedandsynthesized,suchas4-methoxyphenol,4-n-butoxyphenol,4-n-hexyloxyphenol.Andthemolecularcharacterizationsofthesmallmoleculeswereperformedwith1HNMR.Thirdly,theblendsamplesofMJLCPswerepreparedasfollows.TheweightpolymersandsmallmoleculesweredissolvedinTHF,heatingto70oCfor2hours,quenchedtoroomtemperature,andrequisiteamountsofthepolymersand4-alkoxyphenolweredissolvedinTHFandthedriedinvacauum.Thecompositionsoftheblendsareexpressedbymasspercentageofpolymers.ThephasebehaviorsofconcentratedsolutionofthePMPCSwereinvestigatedbyacombinationoftechniquesincludingdifferentialscanningcalorimetry(DSC),polarizedopticalmicroscopy(POM).Theexperimentalresultsshowedthatthemorelongerthesamllmoleculeshasalkoxytails,themoreeasierconcentrate
