AbstractChina has gradually enhanced its cooperation with other countries in different areas ever since the reform and opening-up. The cooperation in engineering sphere has also been greatly expanded in recently years. Through undertaking overseas projects, the management capability of Chinese companies can be improved and perfected and reach that of international standard. To achieve a smooth communication between Chinese and foreign technicians during the project construction, professional translators or interpreters are needed. Therefore, accurate translation of engineering documents is of great significance and poses challenges to translators and interpreters. Based on the translation practice of Keells City SteelStructure Project Construction Plan (Chapter Ⅵ), this report aims to incorporate previousresearch results and propose methods to improve translation quality of this kind of material and translator capability in this field.Based on the Chinese-English translation of Keells City Steel Structure Project Construction Plan (Chapter Ⅵ), this report reflects on various characteristics of engineeringEnglish discussed in researches by other scholars, summarizes the general translation process of engineering-related texts by applying functional translation theory and problems possibly incurred therein and proposes possible methods to improve translator capability.This report is divided into five parts: the first part generalizes the source and content of translation text; the second part describes detailed translation process, consisting of preparation, translation and proofreading; the third part is about translation analysis based on theories, discussing characteristics of engineering English and translation tactics based on functional translation theory; the fourth part is the reflection on translation, including suggestions on translator capability building in this field; the fifth part is the conclusion of this report.Key words: engineering English; function
