AbstractInrecentyears,withtheflourishofChinesetouristindustry,somestudiesontranslationoftouristtextsfromChinesetoEnglishhaveattractedmoreandmoreattentionsintranslationfield.BecausethetranslationqualityisonevitalfactorthatnotonlyaffectsthetransferenceoftouristinformationbutalsoinfluencesthewholeimageofChinesetourist.TheaimofsometranslationscholarsistospreadChineseculturebymeansofdisseminatingtouristinformationandtouristresourcesaccuratelysotomakeacontributiontopromptingculturalinteractionandcommunicationbetweenChinaandsomewesterncountries.Therefore,afterreferringtosomerelevantmaterials,theauthorholdsthattherightchoosingoftranslationtheoryandstrategyplaysavitalroleinachievingtheintendedfunctionsoftouristtexts.Theauthorofthisthesis,afterreviewingsomerelevantstudiesathomeandabroad,discoversthatPeterNewmark‘stranslationtheoryistherightonetoguideC-Etranslationoftouristtexts.Thetheorycouldcompensatesomeshortcomingsofothertranslation,suchasignoringthetexttypeandtextfunctionsonlytotransferthecontextualmeaning.Newmark‘stranslationtheoryincludestexttypologyandtwotranslationmethods,namelysemantictranslationandcommunicativetranslation.Thecoreofthetheoryisthatdifferenttextscouldbeclassifiedintoinformative,expressiveandvocativetextsfromtheperspectiveoflanguagefunctions.Andhemaintainsthatitisthetexttypethatdeterminesthetranslationmethod.Amongthosetexttypes,informativeandvocativetextsarereader-centered,whichputmoreemphasisonreaders‘responses.Therefore,thecommunicativetranslationshouldbefirstlyadopted.Whiletheexpressivetextstressesonthewriter‘spersonalfeelingsandthesemantictranslationiswriter-oriented,itusuallyconveysinformationinawaythatisfamiliartotheoriginalwriters.Thussemantictranslationshouldbethedominanttranslationmethodforthistypeoftexts.AccordingtoNewmark‘stexttypology,expressive,informativeandvocativearethemainfunctionsoflanguage,butfewtextsarepurelyexpressive,informativeorvocativeandmostincludeallthreefunctionsjustwithanemphasisononeofthemandtheothersasthesubordinatefunctio
