AbstractTextbooks,whichbelongtothepracticaltexttype,havewitnessedanincreaseintheirintroductionandtranslationinrecentyears.However,tothebestofmyknowledge,theresearchinthisareaisstillinitsinfancy.Toexplorethemethodsthataresuitablefortextbooktranslation,Itakechapter9ofInterviewingPrinciplesandPractices(FourteenthEdition)astheobjectoftranslation,and,undertheframeworksofPeterNewmark’stexttypologytheoryandcommunicativetranslationtheory,Iconductatentativestudyonthecharacteristicsandskillsoftextbooktranslationandhowthesetheoriescanbeappliedtosolvetheproblemsencounteredinthetranslation.Thepurposeistosearchforsomeeffectivetranslationstrategiesandmethodsoftextbooktranslation,andimprovemytranslationability.Thereportisdividedintofiveparts.Theintroductionintroducesthebackground,purposes,significanceandstructureofthestudy.Chapteroneisthetranslationtaskdescription,includingabriefintroductionoftheauthorsandthebookandananalysisofthefeaturesandthetexttypeofthesourcetextaswellasthetranslationdifficultiesencountered.Chaptertwoisthedescriptionofthetranslationprocess,includingthepreparationbeforetranslation,translationtoolsandtheoreticalframework.Chapterthreestudiesthecases.Inthischapter,theapplicationofPeterNewmark’scommunicativetranslationwillbeinvestigatedinthetranslationofinformativetexts.Lastly,theconclusionsummarizestranslationexperienceandtheimplications.InATextbookofTranslation,Newmarkclassifiestextsintothreetypes:expressive,informativeandvocative.Heclaimsthatwhilesemantictranslationissuitableforexpressivetexts,communicativetranslationissuitableforinformativeandvocativetexts.Astextbooksfallintotheinformativetype,itfollowsthattheycallforcommunicativetranslation.Intheapplicationofcommunicativetranslation,Iarguethatthetranslatorfocusesonthe“force”and“truth”ofthesourcetextandconformstotheequivalenteffectprinciple.Inthislight,IproposesuchstrategiesassentenceregroupingandtheIuseofChineseidiomstobetterconveytheinformationofsourcetexttothetargettextreaderssoastomakethetargettextmoreunders
