1 Introduction
1.1 Introduction to the author
Charlotte Bronte was a female writer of critical realism, who lived in the mid-nineteenth century. The Bronte was one of the most extraordinary literary families that ever lived. Their books have been translated into many languages and are always high in reading popularity. Jane Eyre is an autobiography, so unquestionably charlotte Bronte’s experience inspired the character in Jane Eyre. In 1824, Mr. Bronte sent her daughters to a school for daughters of poor clergymen. Undoubtedly he selected the school for its low tuition, but the condition was intolerable and discipline overly rigid. The “Lowood” selection of Jane Eyre vividly conveys Charlotte’s unhappy memory there. Several months after their arrival, Maria weakened by poor diet and lack of rest and died of malnutrition. Maria’s death was especially traumatic for Charlotte, and she was the inspiration of the character of Helen Burns. After the death of their sisters, Charlotte taught her left sisters at home and worked briefly as a governess, an experience she described in Jane Eyre. In 1942, Charlotte studied French in Belgium. There she developed a passionate attachment to Constantine Hager, her married instructor, who inspired the character of Rochester. The novel is realistic in that the characters are inspired from people of real life and its heroine is a humble governess, largely those of everyday life.
Jane Eyre is a passionate dream of Charlotte. Jane Eyre expresses Charlotte’s own desire for liberty and self-realization, her brief in the primary of love and some of her own most deeply felt convictions.
