PAGE PAGE 2 Expression and significance of Twist and IGF-1 in prostate cancer Abstract Objectives: To study the expression and correlation of Twist, IGF-1, in tissue of prostate cancer (PCa) ,and to investigate the clinical value of them in the occurrence , progression of prostate cancer preliminary. Methods: Expressions of Twist and IGF-1 in 10 cases of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and 36 cases of PCa were detected by using immunohistochemistry method. Results: 1.Twist mainly expressed in the cytoplasm of PCa.30 cases were positive in 36 PCa﹙83.3%﹚and 10 cases BPH were negative,which has significant difference﹙ P＜0.01 ﹚.There is a significant difference of Twist expression in different pathological grade and clinical phase﹙P＜0.05﹚. IGF-1 mainly expressed in the cytoplasm or cytolemma of PCa. 27 cases were positive in 36 PCa﹙75.0%﹚and 2 cases in 10 BPH﹙20.0%),which has significant difference﹙P＜0.01﹚. There is a significant difference in different clinical phase﹙P ＜0.05﹚,but There is no significant difference of IGF-1 expression in different pathological grade﹙P＞0.05). The expression of Twist was positively related with IGF-1 in PCa.There is a significant difference between them﹙??=0.430，P＜0.05﹚. Conclusion: 1.Compared with BPH,high expression of Twist in PCa indicated that Twist may play an essential roll in the occurrence, progression of PCa. Compared with BPH,high expression of IGF-1 in PCa and its intimate correlation with clinical phase indicated that it may has important contribution in the occurrence, progression of PCa.It probably participated in tumor invasion and metastasis of PCa. The expression of Twist was positively related with IGF-1 in PCa.Maybe Twist and IGF-1 has synergistic effect in PCa tumorigenesis and development.
