华 华 中 科 技 大 学 硕 士 学 位 论 文 II II Abstract The issue regarding social poverty has been in the limelight of academic and governmental concern for a long time. With the rapid growth of China’s economy, our country has come into the period of social transformation which drastically remolds the former economic structure. Consequently, the problem of urban impoverished population has stood out with the main part of the unemployed and urban migrant workers who live in a relatively needy condition. Their life standard is far below the average level of the city, even though most of them can afford the basic expenses, which results in the sense of relative deprivation. Urban impoverished population is facing various difficulties concerning household relationship, community participation and social interaction, rather than merely economic pressure. Lack of social support, the family in poverty cannot obtain resources and backing from other social systems. Therefore, it is an ideal solution to address the problem of urban poverty by helping those families establish and expand ‘social supporting network’. According to the survey, it is still not optimistic with the current situation of this kind of support, namely they are incapable of obtaining effective resources from the backing network which is itself insufficient for the impoverished. The writer carried out the case work and interview in H community of Wuhan city on late February, 2012. Assisted by community staff, the writer made a detailed investigation on the living condition and social support of the needy families. Furthermore, the supporting situation of three families is analyzed, including formal and informal support. Due to feasibility and effectiveness, the writer aims to select one household in poverty to implement the case intervention in order to enhance client’s confidence, improve family relationship, and promote their growth.
