Abstract
Since 2001,when English course was offered in primary schools as required ,more and more attention has been paid to prim盯y English. Teaching and learning at prim町Y schools and junior high schools 町e two connected stages of compulsive education. They are independent and
interrelated. However ,these two stages are isolated for quite a long time,which seriously
affected the development of English education. As a result transitional problems in English teaching 企om primary schools to junior high schools need solving urgent1y. As such,this study
was conducted.
With the theory of Constructivism ,Cognitive Development and Zone of Proximal Development ,this study makes in-depth investigation into the English teaching at primary schools and junior high schools in Qing county ,Cangzhou through questionnaires ,interviews and classroom observations. It mainly focuses on the following four aspects: the teaching material ofEnglish,the curriculum standards,teaching method and teaching evaluation.
Data analysis indicates that transitional problems do exist in practice. Firstly,there exists a big gap in teaching materials in terms of the coverage of knowledge ,the difficulty level and the structure of teaching material. Secondly,though the curriculum standard was designed scientificly,it is executed inadequately. The language ski1ls,language knowledge and learning strategies of many primary school students havent reached the curriculum requirements. Thirdly, the teaching method at junior high schools is quite 副different 企f旨rom tha创t o句f p阳严n俐冈m
i扭s hard for the firs剑ty归ear middle school students tωo g创et used tωo. Fourthly ,their teaching evaluation system changes a lot in the subjects of evaluation ,frequency of examination,form of examination ,and ways of grading.
