As two major developing countries, China and India, foreign direct investment plays a quite important role to their economic development. How to attract and use the foreign direct investment effective impacts the future of China and India. The thesis describe the background and significance of this comparative study firstly, and overview the theories about how foreign directive investment impacts the economic of host country and the evolution of the theory of FDI. Then conduct comparative research on such aspects as the scale, flow direction in industries, source, policy of foreign direct investment between China and India. The scale of FDI absorbed by India is far smaller than China, but its source and flow direction in industries is more reasonable and health. And the policy and legal of FDI of China should learn from India. The dissertation uses the inward FDI performance index and potential index of China and India and makes a comparative analysis. As the data announced by UNCTAD, China is forward than India in the ranking by the inward FDI performance and potential index. But this system just analysis the performance and potential of absorption of FDI in the view of a country, and neglects some important factors and the regional imbalances. For analysis the potential of FDI’s attraction of China and India deeply, the paper introduces the national competitiveness and the confidence of FDI’s attraction and then makes an comparative research. At last, the study gets a result that there will be a competition on such aspects as automobile manufacturing, telecommunications and RD centre of TNCs in the future. After studying the experience and lessons from the utilizing of India, some constructive suggestions are given for our government and enterprises to future promote absorbing foreign capitals.
