In the late 19th century, she began to be famous writer all over the America. Chopin?s short stories were very popular and acceptable in the local color school. Most characters in Chopin?s novel are real person who had emerged in her life or truly existed in the society, which can be considered as the characteristic feature of her works. In 1899, following the first edition of The Awakening was endless blistering condemnation, which adjudged the novel illegal. This judgment lasted for about half and a century. Critics identified this article as an immoral, vulgar, unwholesome and even unholy thing. They were shocked and dismayed at Edna Pontellier?s unorthodox behavior. For this reason, critics considered Chopin?s novel as a morbid production of humanity naturally, and of course, it also lacks of the basic value to be identified as a literary work.
