ABSTRACT Residential location of city, as the core of this thesis, doesn’t only indicate the geographic location of which the residential location in the city space, and also is the sum of every social relations which have close relation with it. The main bodies have relation with residential location are: the residents, the real estate corporations, and the government. Especially, since Chinese reform and opening up, commercial residential, the resident become the main body to buy a house, and the corporation become the developer of the real estate market. The government turns to macroscopic mark out the market, for indirect leading, and increase the power to urban planning. The residential location of urban is more and more important. This thesis takes the residents as the point of view, and researches their choice on the residential location of city. Taking Chongqing as the research object is because: both in the development of Chinese city real estate and on the distributing of Chinese city space, it has good characters and typicality. Base on the residents’ circumstance of Congqing city, using questionnaire, the thesis leads analysis into the model and investigate analysis to carry on the research. This text contents totally 5 chapters, and its research parts mainly are chapter2, 3 and 4: Chapter2 is the part of theoretic base. Firstly, this part introduces the concept, and analysis character and yardstick of the Location theory. Secondly, generalize the development of Location theory. Then, it introduced some relevant concepts. Especially, there are three different but close concepts: the Residential location of city, the Residential Space of city and the Residential differentiation of city. Chapter3 belongs to qualitative analysis part. This part based on the Chongqing actual circumstances, mainly analysis the city residents’ choices of the residential location by macroscopic and microscopic ways.
