I I Abstract With the rapid development of technology, current education is characterized by high efficiency, technicalization and utilization. The phenomena of ignoring humanistic education, such as preferring indoctrination to cultivation, emphasizing on knowledge and looking down on humanistic quality, and looking up to external standards other than internal feeling, ect. exists in the English teaching process. Influenced by exam-oriented education, some English teachers attach importance to the imparting of knowledge points while ignoring the fostering of cross-cultural awareness. Therefore, inadequate understanding of educating functions of humanities will lead to the phenomena that lacks the support of humanistic connotations, such as silent English in cross-cultural communication, culture shock, and time consuming and low efficiency in foreign language teaching. In the background of implementation the quality-oriented education and reforming the course in our country, improving the humanistic quality of teachers has certain practical significance on the improvement of foreign language teaching quality in senior high school and fostering foreign language inter-disciplinary talents. Therefore, this paper will give an introduction in this field and expects to form a new entry point of professional development of English teachers. This paper comprehensively applies the subject knowledge of pedagogy and psychology from the angle of English subject. It also concretely analyzes current situation that senior high English teachers’ lack of humanistic quality and its reasons. On this basis, it also puts forward the methods and approaches to improve the humanistic quality of senior high school teachers. It starts from the analysis of concepts, then deals with current situations and analyzes the reasons. Finally the author focuses on the expounding of solutions to problems. The closing part concludes and summaries the main points
