Abstract The teaching of writing is important and also difficult in senior high school’s Chinese lessons. However, high school students don’t obtain enough writing trainings, and the ways of teaching are not systematic. Students don’t have good writing skills, which means some of them can’t fully understand the theme of an article; some write articles empty of matter or false display of affection; and some can’t apply different sorts of writing techniques or colorful languages. On the other hand, teachers are lack of effective teaching methods about ‘what to teach’ and ‘how to teach’. They don’t guide students to understand ‘why we write’, ‘what we write’ and ‘how we write’. This essay aims at the study of phenomena and problems in high school writing lessons, trying to find out the cause of the problems. Based on training writing skills, I will put forward some ways to deal with those problems, such as combining reading and writing; improving writing system or having different types of trainings, etc. Both Empirical research and theory analysis are used in this essay, which includes documents research, questionnaire survey, interview and living examples analysis.
