While video surveillance system by its direct-viewing, the convenience and full of content can satisfies some to the scene monitoring detail request. By unifying these two kinds of technical respective merits, the video surveillance system can have a more detailed monitor where the fiber fence system indicates some events are happening in certain scope. And based on this, this article has designed an embedded video surveillance system. The embedded video surveillance system involves the embedded technology, the digital image technology, the communication technology and so on. The ARM+Linux technology is widely used in the current embedded system. This article designs a video surveillance plan based on the ARM9. The video surveillance system uses the ARM9 processor + Connection structure. The ARM9 uses a high-performance embedded processor Samsung S3C2410 and combines with USB connection camera and video transmission plan based on the C/S mode to realize real-time video surveillance where the fiber fence system indicates some events are happening in certain scope. The main research of this paper is about the design of video surveillance system. It mainly introduces the software development based on the hardware platform, discusses every steps of the embedded video surveillance system from the lower driver layer to the upper application, including the compiling environment, Bootloader, the Linux kernel, the driver program, the file system and the application program development. And it elaborates the USB camera driver program in detail. The application procedures mainly include the front video gathering procedure and the later video transmission procedure.
