PAGE PAGE 10 Research on 9/6-reinforcing-reducing needling method of ancient literature ABSTRACT Objective: To sort out the origins of 9/6-reinforcing-reducing theory, the operating methods and essence of 9/6-reinforcing-reducing techniques , as well as the key point to apply 9/6-reinforcing-reducing techniques, by conducting a comprehensive study about 9/6-reinforcing-reducing techniques of the ancient literature. It is for the clinical application of acupuncture reinforcing-reducing techniques to provide a wealth of literature, a solid theoretical basis, and the clinical application of reference. Methods: First, to make an extensive collection of historical data which prior to 1840. According to the age of ancient medical books one by one to read the general description, to exclude these literature which does not involve needling method or reinforcing-reducing needling method, to reserve these literature which is related to needling method or reinforcing-reducing needling method. Secondly, collate the nine, six of the number or 9/6-reinforcing-reducing of all the related content from selected acupuncture literature. Finally, to sort out the origins of 9/6-reinforcing-reducing theory, as well as the key point to apply 9/6-reinforcing-reducing techniques, ultimately to form a complete theoretical system. Results: The study shows that the theory of 9/6-reinforcing-reducing techniques directly comes from the concept of YinYang. After the theory development of Ming dynasty, 9/6-reinforcing-reducing techniques have develop a complete theoretical system. Application of the theory first appeared in the acupuncture da quan, greatly developed in medicine threshold, and matured in the acupuncture Dacheng. Conclusions: 9/6-reinforcing-reducing needling method has rich connotations. It should be subject to the general attention from research scholars. It would make impact on acupuncture academic development if we were to further study 9/6-reinforcing-reducing nee
