Learning Objectives
1. To comprehend the passage thoroughly to know some differences about body language among different countries.
2. To learn to summarize the main idea using skimming and scanning.
3. To respect each other’s culture in order to make good communication.
Step I: Warming Up
Have a class report about body language. The name is “I do, you guess”
(课前演讲是关于身势语,在学生的互动中丰富了学生的知识也调动了学生的学习积极性)
Step II: Fast-Reading
Read the text quickly to summarize the main idea of each part(make good use of skimming and scanning)
Part 1. The cultural mistakes of “body language”
Part 2 Different body languages in different countries.
Part 3. Summary of body language
Part 4. Meeting this year’s international students
(设计比较简单的段落大意连线题,同时提醒学生在概括段落大意的过程中运用跳读和略读的技巧,提高学生的阅读技巧。)
Step III: Careful reading
Task 1. Please find the answers to these three questions.
(1). Find out the two mistakes the writer found at the airport.
(2). Is the author of this passage male or female? How do you know?
(3). Who seemed to prefer to keep more physical distance from others? Who seemed to prefer closer physical distance?
(给学生足够的时间挖掘课文细节,对于产生误会的第二三段可以让学生再次阅读,并思考出现这一现象的原因)
Task 2. Decide whether they are true or false.
(1). Englishmen often stand close to others or touch strangers as soon as they meet.
(2). Most people around the world now greet each other by kissing .
(3). Japanese will bow to others as greeting.
(4). People from Jordan will move very close to you as you introduce yourself to them.
(5). Some body languages in some countries are good while some countries’ body language are bad.
(此部分设计的目的在于巩固学生对课文细节内容的理解。)
